< BACK The Trunk Lid NEXT >

The original trunklid was way too far gone to repair. The lip at the bottom of the underside was totally rotted away. Somebody had stuffed all the holes on the outside with chopped fiberglass.

Here are the decals that were attached to the underside of the lid.

I was luck enough to get a good used trunklid with the car. There was only a small dime sized hole that I needed to repair.

The first thing I did was strip the paint off the top with paint stripper.

Then I sandblasted the underside.

I cut out the rusted area and butt-welded in a patch where the hole was. The repair is barely detectable in this picture.

After a little light filler work to smooth things out, it got a thick coat of epoxy primer.

Then its was paddle sanded and primed again.
